Jose del Alamo

Name: Jose del Alamo
Ship: La Santa Faz
Birth: June 7, 1758[5] - Agaete, Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain
Father: Sebastián del Álamo[5]
Mother: Andrea de Medina[5]

History

Jose left Santa Cruz, Tenerife in Feb 17, 1779 sailing on the La Santa Faz and landed in New Orleans on July 1779.[1]   He resided at the Galveztown settlement.

Jose married Francisca Diaz, daughter of Bartolome Diaz and Josepha Perez Hidalgo of Aguimes, on August 8, 1783 at the Galveztown settlement.[6,8]

NOTE: Francisca Diaz, daughter of Bartolome Diaz and Josepha Perez Hidalgo is not listed sailing with the family on La Victoria.  It's possible she may have come with a previous family and remarried in Galveztown shortly after arriving.

Children

  1. Maria
  2. Bartolome (b.1783)
  3. (Constancia) (b.1785)
  4. Catherine (b.1788)
  5. Nicolas Josef (b.1791)
  6. Margarita Rosalia (b.1795)
  7. Josepha Victoria (b.1798)
  8. Leandro Josef (b.1802)

Daughter Maria married Juan Luis Arruet, son of Pedro Arruet and Catalina Lupet[Tupe?] of St. John the Baptist Parish, in 1801 at the Galveztown settlement.[2]  She died in 1816.  They had children in East Baton Rouge, Livingston and St. Helena parishes.

NOTE: An unnamed daughter of Jose Alamo and Francisca Diaz was born August 12, 1785 and baptized October 12, 1785 at the Galveztown settlement.[2,6,10]  It is possible this is the same person as Maria.

Son Bartolome was born January 1, 1783 and baptized August 1783 at the Galveztown settlement.[2,6,9]

Daughter Constancia married Jose Ramirez, son of Cristobal Ramirez and Ana Caballero, on September 30, 1805 at the Galveztown settlement.[3]  She died April 3, 1835.[7]

NOTE: An unnamed daughter of Jose Alamo and Francisca Diaz was born August 12, 1785 and baptized October 12, 1785 at the Galveztown settlement.[2,6,10]  It is possible this is the same person as Constancia, who married Jose Ramirez in 1805.  Her death in 1835 states she was "70 years old" but this is considered to be erroneous.  It's quite possible she was 50 years old, placing her birth in 1785.

Daughter Catherine was born November 25, 1788 and baptized November 30, 1788 at the Galveztown settlement.[2]  She is listed as "Catalina de Alanzo" and had children in Baton Rouge area.[3]

Son Nicolas was born December 6, 1791 and baptized December 21, 1791 at the Galveztown settlement.[2]

Daughter Margarita was born August 26, 1795 and baptized September 6, 1795 at the Galveztown settlement.[2]

Daughter Josefa Victoria was born December 22, 1798 and baptized December 23, 1798 at the Galveztown settlement.[2]   It is possible she is living across the Manchac in Livingston Parish in 1840.

Son Leandro was born March 13, 1802 and baptized September 18, 1802 at the Galveztown settlement.[2]
